Disobedience: Critics Salon at BFI Southbank

On 5 December 2018, BFI Flare programmer Emma Smart and I took part in a Critics Salon discussion about Sebastián Lelio’s film Disobedience at BFI Southbank.

We talked about the relationship between Ronit and Esti, how the film fits (or doesn’t fit) within the canon of lesbian cinema, the film’s soundtrack, the depiction of the north London Orthodox Jewish community and the question of ‘authenticity’, among many other things.
